With so many events going on in NH relevant to technology, social media and other interests, I thought it was high time to implement a state wide calendar. Hopefully this will do two things: 1) eliminate conflicting, similar events on the same day or night 2) help people find and share MORE awesome events around the state.

There are a few admins of the calendar who can edit the events you post (Myself, John Herman, Justin Herman, Christine Major, Nick Plante, Kelley Muir, Ted Roche, Kevin Micalizzi). We can also help you post an event if you find yourself “calendar challenged” by the Google Calendar event posting interface. Other people can post events but not edit (Don’t forget to set your event to “public” so we all can see it before saving, and to include an URL for more info in your description! Make it easy for people to come to your thing!).

Here is the plain html NH Calendar link for sharing in emails and tweets and such

Here is the iCal NH Calendar link

Here is what it looks like embedded and reduced to fit a blog post window (you can grab the iframe embed code from the share calendar button, or one of us can email it to you – standard embed width is 800px, this is shrunk to 400px):

We’re adding some of the existing events this evening, check back tomorrow night and if you don’t see yours yet – ADD IT. All of NH will thank you. Have fun!

Note: If you can’t add your event for whatever reason, any of the people listed here can add it for you – get us the details

Also, We’re getting a lot of emails about scheduling around school. We know parents will make it to these events if they can, and if not – there is always next month as many are recurring. We have a quite a few single and child free people who go to these various meetups as well, so there is a nice, diverse mix of people every month as schedules change and people’s availability rotates.

I’ve been thinking about this topic for all of 2009. It only seemed fitting then to do what I do and create a conference around it so we could all explore the topic together. I found a like mind in Joe Cascio of Push My Follow, and we started the work of getting a conference together.

We dubbed this conference S•Cub3d (Social Science By The Seashore) and it’s all about putting social media on the couch for some deep analysis of what drives it. We’ll be holding it in Connecticut by the ocean in Summer 2010 with the idea of being central to the great minds studying this very topic in both New York and Massachusetts, as well as central to many colleges, universities and methods of transportation.

We’re playing some of the details a bit close to the vest for now, opening our announcement with a call for speakers and sponsors for this one-day conference. We’ll be unveiling the location, hotel information for those who wish to stay over and the speaker and sponsor list as 2010 opens up, but for now – we’ve opened the dialogue to make sure we touch on the topics that are important to the community.

We’re taking this analysis so much further than ROI and marketing. We want to know about the human behaviors that drive social media and make it what it is, and the human behaviors that will drive its future.

So please, if you are researching this topic (and using the tools – not just armchair quarterbacking), we want to hear from you! If you are a cutting edge company that wants to support an event doing this kind of analysis, we want to hear from you also.

You can find the call for speakers and sponsors and conference web site at S•Cub3d.com and the S •Cub3d Facebook Fan Page here.

I have been consumed with client work, speaking, writing the new book, my Social Media Breakfast NH project, and my new project: PodCamp NH. That has meant little time for blogging. I’m happy to be able to write the post announcing that after months of planning, the first annual PodCamp NH is this weekend, November 7 and 9, 2009, at the New Hampton School in New Hampton, NH!

What is PodCamp NH?

PodCamp NH is an innovative gathering of new media enthusiasts, professionals, and anyone curious about what comes next in blogging, social media, podcasting, video on the net, and so much more. It’s called an UnConference because the attendees themselves present the sessions, workshops, and panel discussions. Get ready to connect at Podcamp NH!

Can I still attend?

Yes. We raised enough money through YOUR donations and the support of several sponsors to keep PodCamp NH free for 125 attendees! You can still sign up at this attendee registration page.

Can I still be a micro sponsor?

We would love it if you would help us keep raising money. We have covered the cost of the venue, AV equipment, breakfast and lunch but we are still trying to cover the cost of the shirts and other basics. At this point we are not accepting checks, so the Paypal button found on this page is your best best for contributing.

Can I still propose a session?

We have one session slot left. You can get with Leslie via Twitter if you’d like to claim it. You can see the sessions on this session page (and there are some GREAT ones, including a live taping of NOMX3, a NH Media Makers on Sunday, Battledecks, Creating a Twitter App, making a video from start to finished edit and promotion in 45 minutes, Beer, sessions for authors and musicians, ROI, time management, web development, and so much more.

Is there anywhere for me to stay over for both days?

Yes, there is information on accommodations and any discounts being offered on this page, and you can use hashtag #PCNHROOMIE on Twitter to see who else needs to room share.

Is there parking?

Yes

What else should I know?

You can find everything else on the official PodCamp NH blog and Twitter. The official hashtag of PodCamp NH 2009 is #PCNH. The slogan is “Learn Free or Die”

Monday I was on a panel at the VRMS Emerging Marketing Technology Summit in Boston. My fellow panelists (Suzi Craig of Fathom and Steve Ustaris of Studiocom) and our moderator (Brian Costello of Red Plum) and I attacked the perils and opportunities of social media as it related to the attendees during our hour long discussion.

I thought I’d post my slides here for any of you interested. The panel decided to wing it without slides to promote the concept of communication and get the attendees more involved, and it seemed to have everyone engaged throughout. I expanded on all of the points in the slides, though they don’t show the additional remarks I made specifically for the grocery/shopper loyalty program industry.

The biggest point I stressed for the VRMS attendees was the importance of listening. You don’t have to have a brand presence in social media to listen to what is going on in social media as relates to your brand. Listening is free. It’s simple to implement. It doesn’t take a lot of corporate bandwidth to get going. Every brand should have as many ears to the virtual ground as possible, soaking up information so that they can begin laying the foundation for their eventual foray into this often overwhelming medium.

I also stressed how you listen as well. Listen without defending. Listen without agreeing. Listen actively, but just LISTEN. You are listening to make sure you understand what people are trying to tell you or say about you and brand. The engagement part, the part where you can try to interact with the brand’s perception online, comes later. Engagement comes after understanding what you have listened to.

This month’s Social Media Breakfast is brought to you by Uptown Uncorked, DimDim and the Manchester City Library.

You already know about Uptown Uncorked, since we are the breakfast maestro each month, and DimDim, who handles the live casting of the breakfasts. Let me tell you a bit about the Manchester City Library:

The Manchester City Library has been a cultural treasure to Manchester and New Hampshire since 1854. In his inaugural address that year, Mayor elect Frederick Smyth proposed the establishment of a free public library for all of Manchester’s citizens. During the previous decade, the Manchester Athenaeum had been used and enjoyed by its members. The Manchester Athenaeum collection was officially transferred to the city on September 6, 1854, bringing to life Mayor Smyth’s dream of a Manchester City Library. (read more history here) The Manchester City Library isn’t stuck in its past, however. It has a thriving technological component, highlighting social media through its blog, Twitter, Facebook, Flickr photos, and more.

Thank you to Lichen Rancourt who helped facilitate the Manchester City Library sponsorship for us!

Location: Manchester City Library Auditorium

Theme for the sixth Social Media Breakfast: Community

The sixth Social Media Breakfast NH (hashtag #smbnh) will be all about topics related to Community. In this struggling economy and shifting paradigm we need to be working together to be more successful and better weather the storm. We should be pulling in all aspects of technology, new media, old media and social media to succeed. This meeting will help us lay the foundation for a richer, better education, tech and new media community in NH.

In addition to myself, who will be your host and MC for the morning, you will have three speakers giving three brief presentations on topics relating to the theme for the morning.

Speakers:

• Opening Remarks by Leslie Poston, Uptown Uncorked

• Welcome Remarks by Lichen Rancourt from the library

• Kevin Micalizzi, Community Manager for DimDim, on Simple Rules for Great Community Management

• Rachel Happe, Co-Founder of The Community Roundtable, on Eight Competencies to Socializing Your Organization

• Heidi Duncanson, Marketing Director at the Children’s Museum of NH, will share tips for building community on a shoestring

This is going to be a great breakfast!

TO SPONSOR THIS OR A FUTURE SMBNH CONTACT LESLIE POSTON via Twitter, Email or Phone.

Let’s make SMBNH crackle with energy and success! See you there!

This year I have not one, not two, but THREE panel ideas up for vote at SXSW: two for Interactive and one for Film. I have amazing panelists joining me, as well. I’ll need your votes to get them approved so I can go, though. Let me tell you a bit about each of them:

SXSW Interactive: “Online Presence: Asset of the Future“

Leslie Poston (Uptown Uncorked, Film POP!, Twitter for Dummies Co-Author) and Jim Keenan (Avaya, A Sales Guy) will be talking about the near future, and how your online social presence will become a must-have asset, a life-long living resume that will determine your success in relationships, careers, education and more. It will break down barriers and create unheard of opportunities – if you leverage it well. This panel is based on our upcoming book: “Online Presence: Asset Of The Future” and will involve statistics, case studies, methodologies and a lively Q&A component. VOTE FOR THIS ONE HERE. Get others to vote by sharing this URL: http://bit.ly/sxswasset – THANK YOU

SXSW Interactive: “Self Hate Isn’t Sexy: Gender, Race & Tech“

Leslie Poston (Uptown Uncorked, Film POP!, Twitter for Dummies Co-Author) is joined by Rakiesha Chase (Social Butterfly Experiment) and other panelists TBA to discuss how gender and race opportunities are two recurring themes in technology. Are we part of the problem, or part of the solution? This panel is about moving beyond the usual “we’re oppressed” quagmire discussion and into real, workable solutions, starting with ourselves as individuals to effect change in tech and social media. VOTE FOR THIS ONE HERE. Get others to vote by sharing this URL: http://bit.ly/sxswsexy – THANK YOU

SXSW Film: “Social & New Media: The Cheaper Film Promotion Alternative“

Leslie Poston (Uptown Uncorked, Film POP!, Twitter for Dummies Co-Author), Amy Greenlaw (Film POP!), Chase Bailey (“The Libertine”, “Crooked Lane”) and Mark Constance (“Terminator 3″, “Being John Malkovich”, “Losing Jerry”) will discuss promoting independent film. Long gone are the days of small budget Independent films toiling in obscurity. Just like small businesses, Independent Films are embracing Social Media and New Media technology as a low cost way to promote their films. Come listen to our experienced panel discuss new ways to grab eyeballs for your project. VOTE FOR THIS ONE HERE. Get others to vote by sharing this URL: http://bit.ly/sxswindie

Please note: we are competing against nearly 3000 other panels for votes. SXSW is a popularity and interest driven contest. Every vote really does matter. Please feel free to tell your friends, your colleagues and the universe about this post and about these panels, and get out the vote. We are excited to go to SXSW with these bright ideas, but we can’t do it without YOUR help!

That’s right, we’re changing it up a bit in August for the Social Media Breakfast! I know the rest of you are as ready for summer sun and fun as I am, so I thought we’d go for broke and have a BBQ bash on August 21, 2009. From 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM we’ll be taking over the floating gazebo, floating band stage and grassy lake side at Rick’s Pond View on Route 125 in Kingston, NH!

We’re going to have a band, Rick is going to roast a pig for us and serve all the fixin’s, and there will be a cash bar for alcoholic beverages (coffee, tea and water will be included with the BBQ). We are seeking sponsors (partial sponsorship is ok). The sponsorships will be used to pay the band and pay for the food. Rick is generously donating the venue space for free.

This Social Media Breakfast NH will be a slightly different format. Instead of having speakers, we are inviting you to bring your family to this afternoon of networking and fun. Sponsors will get the benefit of being part of the marketing for the event (we’ll make sure you get lots of exposure in the coming weeks). They’ll also get to take the microphone briefly to tell us a little about why they sponsored and what they do as a company.

I’m looking into getting shirts made for what we hope to be an annual event at varying venues across the state. If I do get shirts done (it’s pretty short notice), the sponsors will also have logos on the back of the shirt.

So, the sign up page will be going up shortly. If you want to be a full or partial sponsor, please email me directly or use the Google Voice button in the right sidebar to leave me a message.

This will be a blast, and a great way to celebrate and network before everyone get back to school and fall routines. Even CEOs get to play “hooky” once in a while – it makes us human.

The venue:
