As I watch more and more people and companies jump on the social media consulting bandwagon because it looks like easy money, I cringe. These new agencies and new individual consultants have no experience, no web presence, no strategy – no clue. It pains me to think of the poor companies and people who will be taken advantage of because of a slick website or simply because they don’t know how to look for the right person.

How to find the right person changes as these new agencies learn to game the system, but here are my slides from my most recent presentation to help you choose a good match for you and your company, band or film right now. I hope this helps you navigate the choppy waters and find your perfect social media match.

SMBNH Audio Recap, Future Plans, Video and Slides

Here is an audio recap of the first Social Media Breakfast NH. Thank you all again for the fantastic response, and thanks to SNHU and DimDim for sponsoring. Included in the recap is a call for help for the upcoming 3/20 SMBNH #2, some sketches of future plans, the theme announcement for the next one, thank yous to our speakers and sponsors and much more. The key change from closing remarks to now is a change in venue – Portsmouth will be next, not Kingston.

The video from the event is below (Thank you, Kevin from DimDim!). We had some trouble starting the recording from this first live cast of our fist SMBNH, so you miss my opening remarks (I’m not sure that’s a bad thing) but you do see all of the speakers and their slides. Enjoy! (And yes, I plan to live cast future SMBNHs if the venue supports the bandwidth, now that we’ve hopefully worked out any kinks in this first live cast)

Testing Qik for the HTC Mogul

The folks at Qik heard my plea for a version of Qik that worked on my HTC Mogul, and offered me a beta to test. I just got it, so I need to leave the house and do something interesting to really test it, but you can follow me here in the meantime. I have set Qik to update my Twitter stream when I have a stream going as well.

So far I can say that the installation went without a hitch, and my silly wee hours test video of my MacBook and shamefully messy desk posted rapidly – no trouble with the streaming to web at all. Giving my video a title was also a snap with the HTC Mogul’s touchscreen in action. The video quality of the HTC is a bit substandard, but that is an HTC issue, not a Qik one.

Look for updates to this post as I test it further, but so far, so good.
